Case of the Week

This is a good case of traditional serrated adenoma of the rectum. Note the ectopic crypt formations (arrows). This is where the proliferation in these lesions is found. This example appears filiform, an appearance described by Dr. Rhonda Yantiss some time ago.

Yantiss RK, Oh KY, Chen YT, Redston M, Odze RD. Filiform serrated adenomas: a clinicopathologic and immunophenotypic study of 18 cases. Am J Surg Pathol. 2007 Aug;31(8):1238-45. PMID: 17667549

Case provided by Dr. Elizabeth Montgomery, Clinical Professor, Vice Chair of Faculty Development & Mentoring, Director of Surgical Pathology Fellowship Training Program, Co-Director, Pathology Reference Services, and Editor-In-Chief at Innovative Science Press.
